Lowell Bowling Sends Two to State Tournament
Justin Scott - Sports Reporter
It was a successful weekend for Lowell Bowling who qualified members of both the boys and girls teams to the state tournament this weekend.
The regionals were held at Spectrum Lanes, hosted by Wayland Union. It’s a mountain to climb to make the state tournament. Of 146 total bowlers, only seven boys and seven girls make the state tournament. On the girls side, Lowell experienced both the joy of beating that cutline, and the heartbreak of just missing out.
LHS junior Cadence Dewit punched her ticket to states, finishing in fifth place. A game five 198 put her in a solid position that she was able to hold, bowling a 947 overall with a six game series of 137, 157, 152, 180, 198, and 123. On the other side, fellow junior Rowan Williams finished in 10th with an 883 and six game series of 145, 134, 147, 158, 169, and 130. That 883 was 50 pins off of 7th place Haven Baker of Wayland. Sophomore Amaya Jackson had a high game of 171 and finished 18th. Lily Boland, Winnie Frantz, and Peyton Kahn also competed for the Red Arrows at regionals, the only senior of the six this year was Frantz.
For the boys, it was similar to the girls in that Lowell experienced joy and heartbreak. A byproduct of smaller regions means no longer do the top ten bowlers make the state tournament, the top seven do. Anchor bowler and senior Caden Dennie was the one for Lowell to climb his way to the state tournament. His brother Jordan bowled for LHS from 2009 to 2013 and since graduation has notched three perfect 300 games, the first coming in 2019, and was also a state qualifier for LHS. For Caden, he had a six game series of 171, 208, 159, 182, 182, 180, the consistent 1082 was enough by just 10 pins and 6th overall.
7th place finished with 1072, and in 10th, just five pins off of the cutline was LHS junior Caden Witten. He finished with a 159, 150, 202, 187, 173, 196, nearly coming back to join Dennie at states. Andrew Mathews finished 44th with a high game of 179, sophomore Myles Kuehle finished 48th with a high of 200. Freshman Sabin Ingram (162) and senior Jacob Rapelje (138) rounded out finishers for Lowell.
The boys team finished 8th of 13 teams, with a high baker game of 173. The girls finished 6th out of 12 teams with a high baker of 148.
