Continuing a trend of Lowell student-athletes committing to schools with red and white as their colors, Hope Worsley recently committed to cheer for Indiana Wesleyan.

“I ended up getting into Indiana Wesleyan just for academics, then going down for cheer recruit weekend. I practiced with the team that Friday night and that Saturday morning they offered me a cheer scholarship,” Worsley said of the process.

Hope follows a long stretch of Worsley’s competing as Lowell student-athletes. All of Hope’s siblings played sports at LHS; Christian (baseball and soccer), Faith (softball, sideline cheer, and competitive cheer), Nathaniel (baseball), and Noah (clay target).

Hope has been a mainstay on the sideline cheer team as well as the competitive cheer team that competes this winter. She was deciding between three schools she had all gotten into; IWU, Alma, and Olivet.

“Even though they are the largest private university in Indiana, they still keep their class sizes pretty small in order for students to have that connection with their professors where they are more than just a number,” Worsley said of why she went with IWU over some of the other small school options.

She wouldn’t be the first Lowell student-athlete to compete collegiately at IWU. Another former Red Arrow, Addison Bruwer, just finished her senior golf season there.

“The other reason was the whole dynamic of the cheer team. Cheer can have a difficult dynamic at times, so when I saw how well their team handled things and how they bring their faith in Jesus into the sport, I knew it was one of my top schools,” Worsley added. Wesleyan, the school’s main denomination, is the same as Impact Church in town where Hope’s family is heavily involved.

Located in Marion, Indiana, the Wildcat cheer team currently has both male and female members from across the midwest primarily, but coming from as far as California. They finished 12th at the NAIA National Championships held in Ypsilanti last spring. The Wildcats do have a football team, so you will see Worsley on the sidelines next fall in addition to competitive cheer.

You can see Hope and the Lowell Competitive Cheer team in action starting this December. They’ll have a home meet January 23rd which will also serve as senior night for Hope and her fellow senior cheerleaders.
