When you think of LHS theater, the popular springtime musicals come to mind. Fit with dozens of talented LHS actors and actresses, elaborate sets, and professional lighting and designs. The fall plays are just as impressive, just minus the singing and dancing. You'll still certainly be getting your money's worth.
This year’s Lowell High School fall play is called Game of Tiaras.
“It’s basically the plot of King Lear: a king gives up his land and his kids have to take it over, but with Disney characters instead of the normal ones,” LHS junior Adelaide Plank said about the show.
The second year theater student and also softball player, players Guard 3. "He’s a little oblivious at times but so far he’s been a great character to play. "Im so excited about the goofy plot of this year's show and it’s going to be such an entertaining play that will bring a lot of laughter to people sitting in the audience!"
King Lear is the Shakespeare tragedy loosely based on Leir of Britain. He divides his kingdom amongst his three daughters and it doesn’t end as he had hoped.
While the characters may indeed be Disney themed, including Disney princesses, the play is closer to PG-13 than your traditional kids play. “This is not a Disney princess show - these princesses will do anything to win the kingdom, including murder,” play director Amanita Fahrni said. “But it is a comedy ..... satire. Lots of laughs! My favorite character is the Blood Packet Guy,” she added.
Conner Casarez who serves as LHS Class of 2025 president, and participated in last year’s musical Beauty & the Beast as Cogsworth, takes center stage again as Prince Charming.
“Prince Charming is much like in the classic tale of Cinderella, he is looking for love all throughout the play, but rather than finding a girl that fits a slipper, he’s looking for the one that will give him the most power and control of the entire kingdom.” Casarez said of his role. The LHS senior has been involved in the theater program since fall play of his freshman year.
LHS Fall plays in the past have included TRAP, Almost Maine, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 12 Angry Jurors, among others.
Game of Tiaras is written by Don Zolidis who also wrote last year's LHS Black Box Theater play, so if you watched that last spring you'll have a good sense for the type of comedy you might see here in the fall.
“I am most excited about meeting new people who are just as dedicated to theater as me. I hope everyone enjoys the show as we much as we have had setting it up,” added J’lynn Bruinekool who serves as the stage manager.

“I'm most excited for performances, because this is a comedy and comedies are always the most fun to perform to fresh ears. There's nothing like the feeling of getting onstage and making people laugh, so I can't wait,” said LHS theater debutant Aundrea Anderson who plays The Executioner, French Soldier #3, and Other Princess #1.
Three-year LHS theater student Claire Block joined her fellow classmates in her excitement for the play.
“It’s laugh-out-loud tragedy combining Game of Thrones plot twists and Shakespeare with iconic characters from Disney. Throughout the play, you will see an empire split between sisters as chaos rains and blood spills. Between the increasing casualties and hilarious humor, you won’t know whether to laugh or cry,” Block said who showed her appreciation to Fahrni, Jules Crawford, and Heidi Kolp for their work with the theater department.
“I have loved every moment of it. My theater debut was Much Ado About Nothing in my freshman year where I was a servant girl,” Block added.
You can see Claire, Conner, J’lynn, Adelaide, Aundrea, and the rest of the cast and crew this upcoming weekend!
