Leah Krieger will golf for Hope College next year

There’s been a lot of talent rolling through the Lowell golf programs in recent years. Drew Veldman and Cam Sluss are at Spring Arbor for golf. Tyler Kapcia is a PGA professional at Kent Country Club. Patrick de Voest had options before deciding to not pursue collegiate golf. Addison Bruwer just finished her senior year of golf at Indiana Wesleyan. Now another will join the collegiate ranks as Leah Krieger has committed to Hope College.

“The community at Hope was one of the top factors that drew me there. On each of my visits there faculty would come up to me with a genuine desire to get to know me! It honestly felt like home. When I immediately clicked with the girls on the team, I knew  that it was the school for me,” Krieger told the Ledger.

Hope competes at the division three level, playing at some of the nicest golf courses in the midwest. It also provides the opportunity to play against Kalamazoo College, where fellow senior Elle Sluss will be playing at. Hope also is the alma mater of Lowell Girls Golf head coach Josh Bruwer.

Krieger, who has also competed in gymnastics, track & field, and took a leading role in the student section this past fall, will be pursuing a nursing degree at Hope. “Not only did I choose Hope for the golf aspect but I chose it for the academic side as well. Hearing from current nursing students and the professors made me even more sure about my decision,” Krieger added.

During her four years golfing at LHS, Krieger has been a part of record breaking rounds both 9-holes and 18-holes for the girls, a regional championship team, and this year’s conference championship team that made a run at a state championship. Krieger was all-conference and earned academic all-state honors this past fall.

“The recruiting process was a rollercoaster. I learned a lot throughout the entire process and I’m grateful for it all. There were many stressful and uncertain nights but now being committed I can say that it was all worth it. It was inspiring to hear from coaches all over and insane for me to realize that I could make my dreams come true,” Krieger concluded.
