Match Synopsis and Final Thoughts

Detroit Catholic Central is ranked number 13 in the nation for a good reason. They’re loaded top to bottom. The Red Arrows open the season with a loss in a battle of two teams ranked top of their division. Logan Dawson won a swing match to start the year on a good foot. Jarrett Smith and Owen Segorski recorded pins. Both Boone brothers recorded wins as well. The Red Arrows will be a little disappointed they didn’t pick up a couple more swing matches, but down two ranked wrestlers in a difficult environment they wrestled DCC pretty well.

Final Score - #39 Lowell 21 | #13 DCC 33

175 lbs - Jared Boone finishes the dual with a 6-3 win for the Red Arrows, and starts his junior season on a positive note. Lowell B will wrestle here after this match, but that’s going to be all for this live coverage. Thanks for hanging with us, and we’ll have plenty of coverage in next week’s Lowell Ledger as always.

165 lbs - Marines does secure the dual for DCC with a pin. DCC winning the dual is not really a surprise given how things have transpired. Lowell did a great job of avoiding majors, technical falls, and pins, but DCC just won too many close swing matches in a day Lowell needed to win them and get a small upset or two. #5 Jared Boone up against another Krieger for DCC to close out the dual.

157 lbs - Gonzales loses 9-3. Lowell has done a really good job of avoiding giving up bonus points and keeping DCC wins to decisions. Up next is three time individual state champion Darius Marines. He is looking to lock up the dual for the Shamrocks. He will wrestle Jack Lamoreaux.

150 lbs - Nagy one of very few unranked wrestlers in this Shamrock starting lineup, only because of injury last year. He gives Segorski a bit of a fight, but Owen secures the pin. 24-18 DCC. 6 point deficit with three matches to go, but Lowell will need some upsets to swing their way if they want the win. #1 Mason Stewart (DCC) vs. #6 Tacho Gonzales (Lowell) up next.

144 lbs - Boone went down 2-0 early, giving up the immediate takedown, but bounces back to dominate the rest of the match. Tries to work back points for the major, but not quire able to get them. Still a solid 8-2 win to bring Lowell within 12. Two #1’s left for DCC, but Lowell hanging around. #1 Owen Segorski (Lowell) up against Nagy at 150.

138 lbs - Dawson, the sophomore, picks up Lowell’s second win of the day, 5-1. 24-9 now. Up next, #6 Trevor Boone against #14 Brewer (DCC).

132 lbs - Another pretty similar match result as Foss competes against a higher ranked wrestler. Battles well, falls 8-3. DCC leads 24-6, but Lowell still within striking distance as Lowell #10 Logan Dawson comes out to wrestle #8 Michael Cannon.

126 lbs - Fuchs beats Cichocki 2-1 as school lets out at DCC. Some students mulling out of the assembly. Plenty staying though. Now we’ll see Simon Dominguez, #4 in the state for DCC, against #11 Cody Foss at 126. Lowell without #1 Jackson Blum today as well.

126 lbs - Two time state-runner up and #2 Carter Cichocki up for the Red Arrows. Taking on fellow #2 Grayson Fuchs in what should be a fantastic matchup.

120 lbs - #8 Moscovic (DCC) taking on #13 Mason Saylor. Looks like we won’t see freshman and #4 ranked wrestler Cole Cichocki in today’s match. Saylor one of many multi-sport athletes on the team, he ran cross country this fall. He did get the late takedown to avoid giving up bonus points, falls 12-5, and DCC goes up 18-6.

113 lbs - Really stacked here at the lower weights as Lowell #8 Braddock King takes on DCC returning state champion Lees. Wyatt Lees does get the win 11-4, but King keeps bonus points off the board. 15-6 DCC.

106 lbs - #1 Jarrett Smith comes out with a pin over DCC #2 Totten. Really impressive stuff from the Fargo champ. 12-6 now.

285 lbs - Lowell #6 Juan Acosta out with an injury at heavyweight, he’s replaced by Kenny Kinyon who battles valiantly against DCC’s Benny Eziuka. Falls 4-2 and Shamrocks lead 12-0. A couple narrow decisions that go the way of the home side.

190 and 215 lbs - Engle nearly picks up the upset, falls 4-3. DCC gets a pin by returning state champion Bercume at 215 to take a 9-0 lead.

190 lbs - That is correct, it is 190 as #10 Engle takes on DCC’s #3 Lee Krueger. DCC media team does still think we’re at 106 which is a bit confusing.

190 lbs - Radio team said we were starting at 106, but looks like we’re at 190 with Casey Engle.

1:52pm - Looks like our live-feed is up with commentary from the DCCHS media team. Their school just was on ESPN for the atmosphere for their esports team. A raucous crowd for some Rocket League. I’ll say it again, that student body will be loud today.

1:46pm - Returning state qualifiers for Lowell are Jackson Blum - 1st; Owen Segorski – 2nd; Carter Cichocki - 2nd; Jarrett Smith - 3rd; Logan Dawson - 8th; Veronica Tapia - 8th; Mason Saylor, Juan Acosta, Tacho Gonzales, and Trevor Boone. Lowell has three #1 ranked wrestlers, while DCC has four.

1:30pm - About 15 minutes until the live-feed starts. This match video feed is coming from Detroit Catholic Central. Both Lowell and DCC are no strangers to eachother. Lowell Head Coach R.J. Boudro mentioned in last week’s Ledger podcast that both teams went to a camp together recently to learn from eachother. What they call “Iron Sharpens Iron”. 16 meetings between the clubs historically, with the Shamrocks winning 10 of those.

1:15pm - About 30 minutes until the live-feed starts. The Red Arrows should have two ranked wrestlers out, so the Shamrocks are probably favored in this tilt. The DCC assembly dual is amongst the toughest atmospheres to wrestle in the entire country, so expect a loud live feed.
