JEFFREY LYNNE PERKINS SR.

Jeffrey Lynne Perkins, Sr. passed away on July 2, 2024, in Wyoming, Michigan. Jeff was born on January 10, 1946, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of James Paul Perkins and Ethel Mae (Martin) Yarian. Jeff graduated from Newaygo High School in 1965, after which he honorably served in the Army, followed by a commitment to the National Guard. Jeff’s professional life was marked by a 41-year tenure at CSX Transportation, retiring in 2006. Jeff was a man of many passions. His love for music was evident to all who knew him, as was his enthusiasm for motorcycles. Jeff also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  His interest in electronics, computers and mechanics, showcased his inquisitive nature, intellect, and ability to solve problems with his hands. A proud member of the National Rifle Association, Jeff held his beliefs and values close to his heart.  Jeff’s love for his family was immeasurable, and he took great pride in his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After retiring, he devoted all his time to his beloved grandsons, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Jeff is survived by his son, Jeff Perkins, Jr., and his daughter, Shennon (Dan) Rice, his grandchildren, William (Diana) Velting II, and Clayton (Gabby) Velting, and his great-grandchildren, Kalliope and Kassius Velting. Jeff is also survived by his brothers, Terry (Mary) Perkins and Earl (CJ) France, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Otis Yarian, and James Perkins, Sr., his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandie Perkins, his daughter Kimberly Velting, and his siblings James Jr., Gary, and Sherry. Jeff leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the importance of family. Following Jeff’s wishes, there will be no public services.  Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home.
