KAY LYNN THORNE

Kay Lynn “Caitlin” Thorne, aged 83, of Lowell passed peacefully in her home August 1, 2024, surrounded by beautiful cards, notes, texts, and flowers from her many friends. 

Her son, Michael Thorne (Shelli) of Hudsonville, and daughter, Lisa Thorne (Aaron Hutchinson) of Coloma, were with Kay in her last moments. Kay is also survived by her grandchildren, Chase and Kennedy Thorne; and her trusty camping and traveling companion, granddaughter Isabel Detwiler (nee Thorne, Kaleb).  She was delighted to have had two great-grandchildren (Carter and Willow), as well as nieces, nephews, and their children, to whom she loved to send cards and notes. Kay loved all things of beauty, and found art everywhere.  She painted watercolor and was an artist of many forms. Kay, a master gardener, used to say she was going to “go move some dirt around”, but in reality, planted flowers, trees, bushes, and plants all over Michigan, throughout her life.  She said, “What a gift it has been to have had flowers in my life.”  An avid music lover, Kay was serenaded by her favorites through her last days, bringing great comfort to her and those with her.  She passed in no pain, saying that she felt “safe, comfortable, and not worried about a thing.”   A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers, please go plant something - a tree, a bush, a flower - in memory of Kay.
