MARY JANE WERNET

Mary Jane Wernet, age 68, passed away peacefully in Grandville, MI, on May 31, 2024. She was born on February 21, 1956. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11am, with visitation beginning at 10am, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 402 Amity St., Lowell, MI 49331. Fr. Michael Goodwin presiding. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on August 2nd from 4-9 pm, at the main pavilion at Fallasburg Park.  Mary was a loving mother, wife, and Nana, as well as a talented quilter and knitter. She had a vivacious spirit and was quick to offer a smile, a laugh, and a welcoming hand - traits that brought joy to all who knew her.

She was devoted to her faith throughout her life and served as the Liturgical Coordinator for Our Lady of the Lake in Holland and Director of Religious Education at St. Francis de Sales in Muskegon. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies from the Aquinas Institute of Theology at St. Louis University. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George, and Dolores Dey. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James Wernet; her children, David Wernet, Beth Wernet, Jamie Wernet, and Alan (Randi) Wernet; her grandchildren, Eleanor, Amelia, and Benjamin Wernet; her siblings Sue Ewing, Barb Porter, Mike Dey, Laura Leasure, and Kathe Biggs; and many beloved extended family members and friends.
