THOMAS C. BALCERZAK

Thomas C. Balcerzak, age 79 of Rockford, MI, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at his home.

Tom was born on August 5, 1944, in Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Balcerzak; his parents, Walter Balcerzak and Eleanor (Hartuniewicz) Balcerzak; his sisters, Charlotte Courtright and Jane Balcerzak; his brother, Richard Balcerzak; and brothers-in-law Donald Overholt and William Haddad. Tom is survived by his sisters, Patricia Haddad, Dorothy (Mike) Tuttle and Bernadine Overholt; his bonus daughter, Nikki (Ryan) Riebel; his long-time companion, Mary Markle; his granddaughters, Brinley and Berkley Riebel and many nieces and nephews. Tom was raised in Ada, MI and graduated from Forest Hills in 1962. He served in the Army from 1964-1966. He spent the majority of his career as a Foreman for Visser Brothers Inc., until he retired in 2006. Tom loved fishing, hunting, nature, and gardening. One of his favorite activities included fishing at Blue Lake. Tom was an avid animal lover and enjoyed caring for the many outdoor cats that staked their claim on Tom’s property. Children held a special place in Tom’s heart; they always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye. He spent a lot of time with his great nephews and granddaughters in recent years; those interactions warmed his heart and created many beautiful memories. Tom will be remembered fondly by many and missed greatly by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, 2023, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at 12 pm at Roth Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N Hudson St SE, Lowell MI 49331. Rev. Leonard Sudlik officiating. All are welcome to join family and friends for a luncheon following the Memorial Service.
