One of the catalysts behind Lowell Boys Lacrosse’s road to the state semifinal last year has committed to play lacrosse at the next level.
LHS senior Weston Goldbold is on his way to Hope College next year. Godbold, who is currently in the middle of his senior basketball season, made the announcement in September.
“It is a great campus and the coaches made me feel loved and welcomed. I know people who have attended there before me and have had nothing but good things to say about it. When I visit there it feels like home and definitely a place I could see myself spending the next four years at,” Weston told the Ledger.
Godbold wore the number four jersey for Lowell last year and is easily identifiable on the field by his signature right leg sleeve, he played club lacrosse with True Lacrosse Michigan and plays midfield. Plenty of schools including Tiffin, Albion, Calvin, and Colorado Mesa were involved, but ultimately the decision was between two division three schools, Hope and Aurora College in Illinois.
“It was definitely a lot of time and dedication talking to coaches and going on official visits. It forced me to make many tough decisions, but it’s a big relief when you finally commit,” Godbold added. He’s interested in kinesiology and business, but is undecided at this time.
The youngest of three siblings, his sister Haley played girls basketball and ran track for Lowell, while his brother Mason played four years of lacrosse. It was his brother’s love for the game that got Mason involved initially early in first grade, and immediately took to lacrosse. Also a four year basketball player for Lowell, Weston had 55 goals and 28 assists for the Red Arrows last season in lacrosse. A Godbold goal with 31 seconds left at Caledonia helped jumpstart that playoff run, which included 20 Godbold goals in a five game stretch.
He was captain and earned HM all-conference last year. Former Head Coach Austin Buckius said of Weston that he “has never seen someone with the stamina that Weston has on the field,” after a memorable semifinal run for the boys lacrosse team.
