Lowell High School Welcomes New Cross Country Coaches

Lowell, April 3, 2024

Lowell High School is excited to announce the appointment of Linsey and Brian Smith as the new cross country coaches for the girls' and boys' teams, respectively. Bringing a wealth of experience and passion for the sport, the Smiths are set to lead the cross country program embodying the spirit of community and dedication.

Linsey Smith, a former college runner at the University of Wisconsin, will take the helm as the coach of the girls' team. With a background in competitive running and a deep understanding of the sport, Linsey is looking to inspire and mentor the next generation of female athletes. Her commitment to excellence and her love for Lowell make her an ideal leader for the team.

"I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to coach the girls' cross country team at Lowell High School," said Linsey Smith. "Running has always been a passion of mine, and I am eager to share my knowledge and experience with these talented athletes. Together, we will work hard, persevere, and strive for greatness."

Brian Smith, a former runner at Wake Forest, will bring his expertise and enthusiasm to the boys' team as their new coach. With a strong background in cross country and a desire to give back to his community, Brian is dedicated to helping his athletes reach their full potential both on and off the course.

"It's a privilege to have the chance to coach the boys' cross country team at Lowell High School," said Brian Smith. "I believe in the power of sports to shape character and instill important life skills, and I am committed to helping our student-athletes succeed not only in running but in all aspects of their lives."

The Smiths, who are proud residents of Lowell, are excited about the opportunity to give back to their community and make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. Their appointment comes as Lowell bids farewell to long-time and respected coaches Clay VanderWarf and Paul Judd, who have left a lasting legacy of excellence in the cross country program.

"We are grateful for the dedication and leadership of Coaches Clay VanderWarf and Paul Judd over the years," said Patrick Russell, Lowell High School Athletic Director. "As we welcome Linsey and Brian Smith to our coaching staff, we are confident that they will continue the tradition of excellence and inspire our student-athletes to achieve their goals."
