The Manistee Mariners are one of the newest school names this year, a new nickname adopted to start this school year by Manistee High School. So in a gym that has seen plenty of changes over the last year, there were plenty of constants on Saturday. One of those constants? Lowell kids lifting a lot of weight. Two dozen Red Arrows from the Lowell Powerlifting team helped LHS come away with first place in the JV regional qualifier held at Manistee this past Saturday. Lowell had 106 points to Mona Shores’ 79 points in second.

Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. In the varsity standings, Lowell placed third with 70 points behind Kingsley and Mona Shores. Over 25 teams competed in each division, and of all kids who competed, very few managed to outlift Lowell’s leading lifter Brady Swift, who went; Squat: 465, Bench: 255, Deadlift: 510, TOTAL = 1230 lbs. He was one of Lowell’s seven first place finishers, and Lowell’s lone first place finisher in varsity.

The following are the finishers for LHS provided by Lowell Powerlifting.
