Tennis Embraces River Cities Competition
They haven't all been wins, but it's been a more competitive season for Lowell tennis in the RCA.

Just because Lowell is no longer in the tennis super conference that was known as the OK White, doesn’t mean the Red Arrows are cruising to 8-0 victories in conference. That was never the belief. The belief was that the conference would see balance, fluidity, and would change year to year. That certainly seems to be the case, and even in an 8-0 loss, you can see those matches are much more competitive than they were against FHC, FHN, EGR.
One of those 8-0 losses was to Sparta. Three of those matches, all in singles, Lowell’s strength this year, went to three sets. In the South Christian Tournament, Lowell picked up wins from the doubles team of Liam Kondor and Nick Rokos, along with Riley Haynes and Evan Dressander.
Gavin Stewart at #1 singles has been a highlight for the Red Arrows. He scored Lowell’s lone point against Calvin Christian in a 6-2, 7-6 (1) win over the Squires’ top player Reid Dykstra. He also helped Lowell defeat Kenowa Hills 5-3 by winning his match 6-1, 6-1. Other winners in the match were #2 singles Evan Deeds, #3 singles Micah McDonald, and #4 singles Anderson Stoner. Stoner moved up from doubles earlier this year. They were joined by Haynes/Dressander who ended up being the winning point.
Lowell also found another win in conference play 7-1 over Cedar Springs. Stewart won 6-0, 7-5. Deeds and McDonald both won while Stoner fell in three sets. All four of Lowell’s doubles teams, Rowen Eldred/Eli VanGroningen, Kondor/Rokos, Haynes/Dressander, and Jackson Abbott/Noah Cobb all won. There were two three-set matches and two tiebreakers played showing the competitiveness between the two schools.
Results from the Greenville match, the RCA Conference Meet, and the match with East Kentwood will be in next week’s paper.
