WITTENBACH
Lois Jeane (LeFort) Wittenbach, a devoted wife, dedicated mother, cherished grandmother, and caring great-grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; son, Jonathan; brother, James; and brother, Paul. Her life was a beautiful example of love, service, and unwavering faith. Born on April 10,1930 in Geneva, Illinois, Lois spent her growing up years with her family in LaFox, Illinois.
She was so proud of her nursing graduation from West Suburban Hospital in 1953. In 1955, she married Glenn Wittenbach and together they raised seven children on the family dairy farm. She was blessed with wisdom, grace, and incredible discipline as she always finished what she started. She lived out Proverbs 31:28-29, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” She provided the melody behind Sunday hymns as the pianist at Alton Bible Church for 50 years. She volunteered endlessly as an AWANA leader, camp nurse, and with the American Red Cross. Lois had many piano students over the years, instilling a love of music in so many of her children and grandchildren.
She modeled hospitality even on a busy Sunday as others sat around the big dining table for roast beef and all the trimmings. Her hands were never still-whether she was baking a pie, making jam, playing the piano, knitting dishcloths, winning a game of scrabble, or writing notes of encouragement- Her faith guided her, her kindness inspired others, and her sense of humor entertained all who knew her. She is precious to those she leaves behind: her children, Paul (Paula) Wittenbach; Kathleen (Andy) Girwarnauth; Phil (Phyllis) Wittenbach; David (Amy) Wittenbach; Carol Wittenbach; Tim Wittenbach; her 24 grandchildren; and her 32 great-grandchildren (with 1 on the way). Lois always lifted up those she loved.
As Philippians 1:3-4 so beautifully says, “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” She prayed for her family, friends, missionaries, and church family, leaving behind a legacy of faithfulness that will continue for generations. Family greeted friends and relatives from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Alton Bible Church, 2780 Lincoln Lake Ave. NE Lowell, Michigan 49331. Funeral services were held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the church, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lois J. Wittenbach Camp Nurse Memorial at Pleasant Valley Bible Camp, 3606 Wilson Road East Jordan, Michigan 49727 in her honor.
